Deer Estrus

5 Common Mistakes Made By Hunters Who Use Deer Estrus

Deer estrus is a great tool to use when we are hunting. However, there are a number of mistakes that are often made during the deployment of deer estrus that need to be avoided at all costs. In addition to the deer estrus related concerns, some hunters will typically use a deer decoy as well.

The time has come for us to have a closer look at the most common mistakes that are made by hunters who are looking to get the most out of their deer estrus usage and their deer decoy. Mastering the art of hunting can take some time and by reading on to learn more, you can steer clear of typical pitfalls.

1) Failure To Commit To a Strategy

Some hunters do not know the importance of picking a strategy and sticking to it once the hunting season has begun. You will not be able to learn everything you need to know about your hunting process if you switch up your strategy every single time you head out. Are you going to use a decoy? If so, it needs to be used on every hunt and the same goes for your deer estrus.

2) Remaining Too Visible

Your camouflage outfit and your stand are not going to do the whole job for you. There are too many hunters who are willing to shell out for the proper deer scents and equipment, only to make obvious mistakes as far as their visibility is concerned. If you are trying to attract the attention of deer in an area where they are prevalent, you need to remain out of sight. Let the scents you have chosen do your job for you.

3) Improper Use of Scents

Many hunters will use their chosen scents in conjunction with a decoy. This is a strategy that is proven to work, but it does not mean that you should be splashing your deer decoy and expecting them to come directly to you. For example, liberally splashing the decoy with your scent may work well during the rut. On the other hand, it will not work as well during the other phases of the season. If you use decoys, be sure to spray them down regularly to remove the human scent.

4) Lack of Proper Setup

The more you understand about your set up, the easier it becomes to get the most out of your chosen scents. Using any type of hunting gear is all about taking the time to master it. That's why you need to research the time of the year that you are hunting and collect scouting information for your region before creating a new setup. By learning about the behavioral patterns of the deer you are hunting, you can tailor your setup accordingly.

5) Not Considering The Deer's Senses

Deer are intelligent creatures and when you do not take the time to consider their senses, you will not experience hunting success. Study the deer and be sure to choose scents that are realistic for the time of year. Using scents in the proper way adds realism. Using them in the wrong way makes for a much more difficult expedition.
